Monday’s Cup of Motivation

Monday's Cup of Motivation

This is the 300th Cup of Motivation.

These Cups of motivation focus on family, hope and time. If there’s one thing we have learned from these cups, then they are worth writing every weekend. If you have ever lost someone, you know how valuable time is and where the motivation comes for not wasting time. Every day is a gift. Let’s remind ourselves today that we can do anything we put our mind to. That is what we are told as children. As we grow older, that inner voice is drowned out by everyone telling us what we can’t do. The truth is we are the person who sets the limits on how far we go in life. We are the one person who needs to believe in ourselves no matter what the rest of the world says. The best advice we will ever get comes from that inner voice when nobody else is around. It is telling us we can do this if we keep believing in ourselves. If success was easy, then everyone would be successful. This week, let’s remember that we are unique and a gift from God. Let’s not waste that gift by simply getting through life. Let’s live the life we dream of. No matter where we are at today, there is still time if we start now. Better to try and fail than to not and regret. It’s scary getting out of our comfort zone but that’s where we need to go if we are going to grow. Let’s make the most out of the time we have. Here’s to the next 300 Cups of Motivation and here’s to making it a phenomenal week!!

ENCOURAGEMENT…

As a man was passing the elephants, he suddenly stopped, confused by the fact that these huge creatures were being held by only a small rope tied to their front leg. No chains, no cages. It was obvious that the elephants could, at anytime, break away from their bonds but for some reason, they did not.

He saw a trainer nearby and asked why these animals just stood there and made no attempt to get away. “Well,” trainer said, “when they are very young and much smaller we use the same size rope to tie them and, at that age, it’s enough to hold them. As they grow up, they are conditioned to believe they cannot break away. They believe the rope can still hold them, so they never try to break free.”

The man was amazed. These animals could at any time break free from their bonds but because they believed they couldn’t, they were stuck right where they were.

Like the elephants, how many of us go through life hanging onto a belief that we cannot do something, simply because we failed at it once before?

Failure is part of learning; we should never give up the struggle in life.

Sometimes life is great and sometimes it’s not so great. This is a universal truth. There’s always events coming up and we tell ourselves that once we can get past that event, we can get back to life. The truth is these events are a part of life and they have a huge impact on our quality of life. How we respond to events will have a profound effect on how we live our lives. There are different ways to react to challenging events. Do we float with the tide or do we swim for a goal? That’s the question. We can bury our head in the sand and hope life works itself out or we act and face it head on today and make it work out the way we want it to. Life is all about the choices we make. There is a simple formula that we can apply to all the events in our lives and how we choose to respond. We can actively use this on a daily basis. E+R=O. Event plus Response equals Outcome. Many of us blame outside events for where we are in life. We blame our job, our spouse, the economy, the weather… The truth is we are a direct result of every choice we have made in the past. We need to take ownership of everything in our lives and realize that it is up to us to make it happen. We can’t change the events but we can change how we respond to them in order to get a better outcome. Events don’t determine where we are in life. How we respond to them does. Let’s be positive and take ownership of how we respond to events. It’s never too late to change our attitude. Remember that Thoughts Become Things. This week, let’s think positive and make it happen. Have a phenomenal week!!

ENCOURAGEMENT…

The Worry Tree!
The Carpenter I hired to help me restore and old farmhouse had just finished a rough first day on the job. A flat tire made him lose an hour of work, his electric saw quit, and now his ancient pickup truck refused to start. While I drove him home, he sat in stony silence.

On arriving, he invited me in to meet his family. As we walked toward the front door, he paused briefly at a small tree, touching the tips of the branches with both hands. When opening the door, he underwent an amazing transformation. His tanned face wreathed in smiles and he hugged his two small children and gave his wife a kiss.

Afterward he walked me to the car. We passed the tree and my curiosity got the better of me. I asked him about what I had seen him do earlier.

“Oh, that’s my trouble tree”, he replied. “I know I can’t help having troubles on the job, but one thing for sure, troubles don’t belong in the house with my wife and the children. So I just hang them on the tree every night when I come home. Then in the morning I pick them up again.”

“Funny thing is”, he smiled, “when I come out in the morning to pick ’em up, there ain’t nearly as many as I remember hanging up the night before.”

So if you now number yourself among the disenchanted, then you have no choice but to accept things as they are, or to seriously seek something else. But beware of looking for goals: look for a way of life. Decide how you want to live and then see what you can do to make a living WITHIN that way of life. But you say, “I don’t know where to look; I don’t know what to look for.” And there’s the crux. Is it worth giving up what I have to look for something better? I don’t know — is it? Who can make that decision but you? But even by DECIDING TO LOOK, you go a long way toward making the choice.

Cup of Motivation – Today is a Very Special Day

MONDAY’S CUP OF MOTIVATION
Today is a very special day. Today marks the oldest we have even been and the youngest we will ever be again. Today may seem like just another day, but for many, it will be their last day. They would give anything for more time and another day. The moment we get ill or we learn that our time is limited, we look at time very differently. We can’t allow ourselves to wait until time is running out before we realize how precious it is. Time is the most precious commodity in the universe. Let’s ask ourselves this question, if time truly is that valuable, why do we waste so much of it worrying about things that don’t matter or on things we can’t change? Let’s choose to make the most of our time filling our lives with amazing memories and surrounding ourselves with people we truly care about. Don’t waste time on trivial things. Let’s find the goodness and quality in life. Why do we need to limit life’s amazing experiences to a bucket? Let’s live life so we could fill an ocean with our amazing memories. Buckets are for places and things. The ocean is for family, friends and the things that truly matter…making lasting memories. With that said, let’s get rid of the negative in our lives. Let’s find a way to focus on the positive in our lives today and every day. Let’s surround ourselves with people that build us up. This week, remember to be positive, be a friend, love life and live in the moment. Make the most out of today. Focus on quality and have a phenomenal week!!

ENCOURAGEMENT…

This is the beginning of a new day. You have been given this day to use as you will. You can waste it or use it for good. What you do today is important because you are exchanging a day of your life for it. When tomorrow comes, this day will be gone forever; in its place is something that you left behind…let it be something good.

EXTRA ENCOURAGEMENT…

As you get older you find out that true happiness is not in how much you make or how many degrees you have or how big your house is or how fancy your car is. It’s finding peace and joy and a calmness in your life that will soon become the most important thing to you. Your family are what matters to you, love is what matters to you. Things that are of quality, not of quantity.

MONDAY’S CUP OF MOTIVATION
The greater the risk, the greater the reward. We have heard this our entire lives. As we get older, we work to limit risks and surround ourselves with safety nets. We end up so encased in our nets that we fear risk and losing more than we embrace a challenge and growth. When we played athletics, remember that feeling we had on game day? Anticipation, fear, excitement. That knot in our stomach. There was nothing like competition. When we won, it was amazing. When we lost, we worked hard to improve for the next time. What was important was we gave it our all. We put ourselves out there and competed. Now that we have hung up our cleats and high tops, we don’t compete like we used to. Winning and losing are all part of sports. We win some and we lose some. Why are we so afraid of losing nowadays? We need to take chances and we need to complete. We will never get ahead if we don’t put ourselves out there and go for it once in a while. The more chances we take, the more chances we will won. We are guaranteed to not win if we don’t try. We get in our comfort zone and worry about what if something goes wrong. As the three C’s of life states, we must make a Choice to take a Chance or our life will never Change. It’s time to grow again. If we can put fear in its place and remember that life is short and we only live once, then we can build from there. We need to get out of our comfort zone and keep moving forward. Here’s to friendship, good health and prosperity. Now let’s get out there and compete. Have a phenomenal week!!

ENCOURAGEMENT…

My Comfort Zone
I used to have a comfort zone where I knew I wouldn’t fail.
The same four walls and busywork were really more like jail.
I longed so much to do the things I’d never done before,
But stayed inside my comfort zone and paced the same old floor.

I said it didn’t matter that I wasn’t doing much.
I said I didn’t care for things like commission checks and such.
I claimed to be so busy with the things inside the zone,
But deep inside I longed for something special of my own.

I couldn’t let my life go by just watching others win.
I held my breath; I stepped outside and let the change begin.
I took a step and with new strength I’d never felt before,
I kissed my comfort zone goodbye and closed and locked the door.

If you’re in a comfort zone, afraid to venture out,
Remember that all winners were at one time filled with doubt.
A step or two and words of praise can make your dreams come true. Reach for your future with a smile; success is there for you!

Memorial Day Cup of Motivation

Memorial Day Cup of Motivation

This week starts off with Memorial Day. We all need to stop and thank those who gave all so we could have the freedom we enjoy today. Let’s honor them by living the life they fought for. Imagine a world where we are not free. We see on TV what is happening in other parts of the world and we could not imagine what it must be like to live there. We are so amazingly blessed to live where we do. Can you imagine if we took our biggest problems we face today overseas. For the most part, our first world problems would be laughed at. For those of us living in the United States, a huge percentage of today’s problems that we currently face will be forgotten by this time next year. Our veterans have ensured that we have the freedom to work things out for us as long as we face our challenges head on and keep moving forward. The truth is we live in the greatest country on the world. Think about all the blessings we have in our lives and then compare them to all the problems we have. When we list them side by side, our problems are minimal and our blessings are many. This week, remember that things can always be better but they could also be so much worse so let’s count our blessings and stop our stressing. Let’s hug our kids and our family today and remember how fortunate we are. We have the freedom to choose what we do today, tomorrow and in the future. This is a huge gift that goes hand in hand with Memorial Day. Let’s make the most of this gift and have a phenomenal week!!

Kindness Can Change Our World

Kindness Can Change Our World
by Stuart Thomas

Every week, I have the privilege of writing a motivational message which I send out to our Realtors, associates and friends. I also post them on Facebook. It’s a great way to start the week. These emails are written with the idea that we can all do more, be more and have more if we give more. Now and then, something comes along that really puts things into perspective and gives us a bigger meaning to everything. New York Times photographer Platon asked the Human Rights defender from Burma Aung San Su Kyi “What is the most important thing? Is it love?” She replied, “No, It’s not love. Love is driven by passion and it ebbs and flows and goes away. The MOST important thing is Kindness.” We can all agree that this simple word Kindness can change our world as well as the world of those around us. No matter how well or how bad we are doing right now, we all have it within us to be kind.

Our World - Home & Realty Magazine
Aung San Su Kyi

Here is an excerpt from Aung San Su Kyi’s amazing Nobel acceptance speech. “Absolute peace in our world is an unattainable goal. But it is one towards which we must continue to journey, our eyes fixed on it as a traveler in a desert fixes his eyes on the one guiding star that will lead him to salvation. Even if we do not achieve perfect peace on earth, because perfect peace is not of this earth, common endeavors to gain peace will unite individuals and nations in trust and friendship and help to make our human community safer and kinder. I used the word ‘kinder’ after careful deliberation; I might say the careful deliberation of many years. Of the sweets of adversity, and let me say that these are not numerous, I have found the sweetest, the most precious of all, is the lesson I learnt on the value of kindness. Every kindness I received, small or big, convinced me that there could never be enough of it in our world. To be kind is to respond with sensitivity and human warmth to the hopes and needs of others. Even the briefest touch of kindness can lighten a heavy heart. Kindness can change the lives of people.”
